Eighty-seven acres in a canyon
The Ranch sits in Aliso Canyon, a short shuttle from the ocean, with 97 cottage-style rooms set among mature trees rather than stacked in a block. It is the rare property that publishes its own numbers. Twenty million gallons of potable water saved a year by irrigating the whole site with reclaimed supply. Twenty thousand pounds of food waste composted on site over a four to six month cycle and returned to the farm. Seventy tons of sand a year made from crushed glass bottles, used in the golf bunkers, in pavement repair and as filter media in the pool. Numbers that specific are unusual, and they are the reason this record reads the way it does.

A half acre that feeds the restaurant
Harvest Farm is half an acre of biodynamic growing on the property, worked by a named farmer and open to guests daily, supplying the seasonal menus at Harvest. The seafood policy is stronger still: local boats out of Dana Point and Newport Beach, no farmed salmon, no out-of-season salmon, and every seafood item on the menu drawn from the James Beard Sustainable Seafood Standards list. A named list is a documented sourcing standard rather than a preference, which is the distinction this pathway turns on. Even the tea is named to producer, bagged in Laguna Beach by Jadetiger.
What a guest touches
Every single-use bathroom amenity has been replaced by MALIN+GOETZ dispensers, named to brand. An independent publisher records no synthetic fragrance anywhere on the property and 100 per cent cotton bedding and towels, and places The Ranch in its highest tier on that basis. Fragrance is the one exposure most guests can detect themselves and almost no hotel will commit to in writing, so a property that has is worth reading carefully. What The Ranch has not published is the fibre content, the supplier or any test behind the textiles, so the strongest claim on the record belongs to somebody else.
The rooms have not been described
Air, electromagnetic load and acoustics are all silent, and the resort programmes live music on the property. Every fixture is stated to be LED, which is an energy fact rather than a circadian one, and no colour temperature or blackout provision is published for any room. Most strikingly, a property that publishes its irrigation to the gallon publishes nothing at all about the water a guest drinks or showers in. This is a property already counting things. It has simply never counted the ones inside the room.

What is not publishedthe gaps we looked for and did not find
This is a property that measures almost everything except the guest. Nothing is published on ventilation, filtration or any air reading, so Air Ecology is empty. Nothing is published on background noise, separation between rooms or plant noise, so Sound and Sensory Ecology is empty, and the resort programmes live music. Nothing is published on network topology, access point placement or field levels in a sleeping area, so EMF Harmony is empty. On water, the reclaimed irrigation figures are published to the gallon and nothing at all is published about the water a guest drinks or showers in: no source, no treatment train, no filter, no panel. On light, every fixture is stated to be LED and exterior lighting is described as minimal, with no colour temperature, lux level, flicker figure or blackout provision published for any guest room. The property states it is certified by the California Green Business Network. That could not be confirmed in the network's own certified business directory, so it is not recorded here as a held standard.

Not published is not unsafehow to read these scores, and what this index does not promise
A low score means a property has not published information. It does not mean the property is unsafe, unhealthy or poorly run.
These scores measure disclosure. These scores describe disclosure, not property quality. This index has no commercial relationship with the properties listed unless a badge on the listing says otherwise.
Conditions change, and we will not always know. Every record is a snapshot of what a property had published when we read it, and that date is on the page. Conditions change: a property can refit, change suppliers or replace a system at any time, and nothing requires it to tell us. We re-read records and ask properties directly for updates, but there will always be a gap between what is true today and what was published when we looked. Use this as a frame of reference for what to ask, not as a substitute for asking. Take your own questions to the property before you book, and tell us if you find something we have wrong.
We report what properties publish. We do not inspect, certify or vouch for any property on this index unless a listing says we assessed it on site, and we accept no responsibility for decisions made or outcomes experienced on the basis of what you read here.
Questions travelers askwater, air, EMF, and whether it is worth it
Questions travelers ask about The Ranch at Laguna Beach
Does The Ranch at Laguna Beach publish water quality testing?
Yes, at specification level: a named system, supplier or standard is on the record, without a published measurement. Scored 2 of 3.

We can only report what is published about the rooms themselves. No. Nothing is published, and we looked. That is a statement about the public record, not about safety.
Is The Ranch at Laguna Beach low-EMF?
No measurement is published. Only 15 of the 85 properties we have researched publish any bedroom EMF information at all, so this is the industry norm, not an outlier.
Is The Ranch at Laguna Beach worth it?
